Drivin, like thunder an’ lightning
Yeah I’m drivin, 18 wheels to El Paso
Yeah I’m ridin , wild horses into the sun
Oh I’m ridin, like a feather in the wind
She’s the only thing I ever needed to be one (Repeat)
Now I’m Cryin, as the snow begins to fall
Yeah I’m cryin, got a feeling she’s gonna go
But I’m tryin, tryin not to let it show
That I’m dying, dying just to make a go of it.
She’s the only thing I ever needed to be one
I’m lyin, when I say that is doesn’t hurt
Yeah I’m lyin, and my face is in the dirt
Yeah I’m drivin, 18 wheels I can’t let go
Yeah I’m drivin, like the wind that drives the snow
She’s the only thing, I ever needed to be one (4 times)
When I first wrote this song it was supposed to be a country song about a truck driver who had lost his true love, it was slow and sad. Feeling that it didn’t fit in with the other songs I scrapped it. Anthony, the drummer on ‘Reaching Out’, and I discussed it and his enthusiasm and creative input inspired me to rewrite the song. We revamped the tempo and I rebuilt the song from there. Now the song is about a trucker whose love drives him to travel home through a snowstorm in order to save his marriage.
