Hold On
By A. Jeannette Welch
Hold on, hold on keep on holding on
When things seem bad
Keep on holding on
When things seem down
Keep on holding on
Hold on, hold on
When you seem the lowest
Keep on, keep on, keep on holding on
When things seem the worst
Keep on, keep on holding on
I’ve been waiting for an eternity
Yeah I’ve been waiting for a little reprieve
Hold on, hold on keep on holding on
So long, so long I keep holdin on
Take my hand lead me to the promised land
I’ve got a new life just waiting for me
Take my hand lead me to the promised land
I’ve got somebody just waiting for me … hold on
When things seem bad when life just makes you sad
When you feel low an it just won’t go
Hold on hold on keep on holdin on
About a month before my mother-in-law (Jeannette Welch) passed away, she wrote a poem and gave it to me in hopes that I might be able to use it in a song. ‘Hold On’ is the poem she wrote and ‘Promised Land’ is the song that it inspired. I played the song for her in the hospital and she told me that she wished she had my talent for writing because I had said all the things she’d been feeling. Three days later she passed, I also had the honor of presenting the song at her memorial service. Over the last few months while I was recording this CD I could always feel her presence when I worked on this song.
